Pierce Cook (Director/Editor/Cinematographer) is the founder of Whispering Statues. He graduated from the University of South Carolina with a bachelors degree in Media Arts and a focus in film. Through Whispering Statues and other partnerships, Pierce has provided freelance film and television work since 2001. He directed his first feature film, “Tin,” in 2004 and has since been involved as a director, cinematographer, and editor for a variety of other feature and short films. In 2007 his short film, Grape Jelly, a collaboration between the Rock Hill based Pure Creative and Whispering Statues, won best in show in it’s category during the Indie Grits Film Festival. In 2008 Pierce served as an Editor and one of three Producers on the feature length documentary, ArchiCulture. He is currently developing and assisting other productions in the southeast and abroad.
Ren Bell (Actor/Writer/Director) comes from a performance background rooted in the Avant Garde, with a Masters Degree from the California Institute of the Arts. He currently resides in North Hollywood, where he works for the prestigious Oakwood School and serves as the Head of Acting at the Academy of Creative Education. Ren is also currently developing projects for Whispering Statues and plans to help produce a new production for Whispering Statues in 2010.
Marcus Thomas (Actor/Performer/Director) is creating work grounded in collaboration and fusion. His training ranges from high style theatre to more progressive work on stage and film. Having recently completed Masters Degree at the University of Florida, he has also created the Signs of Life hip hop theater troupe. Their productions are hip hop infused explorations in movement, word, and projected imagery. Along with Co-Director Daniel Flores, they currently perform at UF and plan to continue their commitment to bringing life to the arts. Marcus is currently working on new projects for Whispering Statues for both stage and film.
Andrew Hay (Quartermaster/3D Advisor/History Nut) is part of the glue that holds us together. When Andrew isn’t teaching 3D animation, he’s helping task manage and overseeing our hardware. In house, he helps all of us stay well versed in the operation and maintenance of equipment. On location, he helps manage equipment needs while offering creative input. He’s also a walking encyclopedia on WWI and WWII, which proves both fascinating and useful in a wide variety of applications.
Again, through all that we do we cannot stress enough our desire to educate and learn. Whispering Statues is happy to mentor those who are interested in film and visit schools to talk about the excitement and process of film and entertainment as a profession.
